Santosh named Man of the Year

Motorsports: Life-time award for Vijay Mallya; Arjun Maini named Future Star

It was night to remember for Bengalureans affiliated to motorsports as three of the city’s sons became the talk of the hour at the annual Federation of Motor Sports Clubs in India (FMSCI) Champions Awards night here on Monday.

While Dr Vijay Mallya was conferred the life-time achievement award for his contribution to motorsports in India, motorcross rider C S Santosh received the Motorsports Man of the Year award as 17-year-old Arjun Maini walked away with the Motorsports Star of the Future award.

An elated Santosh, who received the Raymond Gautam Singhania Rolling Trophy along with a cash award for Rs 2 lakh, thanked the federation for guiding him in his venture. “As a child when I wanted to race, I didn’t know where to go or who to approach. It was federation who helped me get on to the right path and from then began my journey,” he said.

Santosh had an impressive 2014 as he became the first Indian to participate and complete the grueling Dakar Rally. The 2015 season too has been good as he who began the season in an impressive style by defending his Desert Storm title early this year.

Meanwhile, Arjun too has take new strides in his category in the new season. After an impressive show in New Zealand earlier this year, the Bengaluru boy is currently participating in the FIA European Formula 3 Championships.
