The police have arrested 10 persons in connection with the murder of a woman and her son at their house at Madina Nagar in Mangammanapalya, Madiwala, on Tuesday. Property dispute is said to be the motive for the murder.

The suspects have been identified as Mohammed Ihsanullah, Syed Abbas, Waseem Khan, Mohammed Salman, Syed Azmathullah, Irfan, Mohammed Faraz, Akram Shariff, Mohammed Salim and Syed. Except Ihsanullah, who is brother-in-law of the victim, and Abbas, the rest of the accused are aged between 20 and 25 and are all residents of the City.

The accused were zeroed in after obtaining vital clues from friends and relatives of the deceased.
Victims Asmat Taj, 36, and Mohammed Rumanullah, 16, were brutally hacked to death by the suspects. Taj was married to Irfan Khan, who was into steel and scrap material business and owned a shop in the City Market.

He was found dead under mysterious circumstances on January 15.  It was suspected that Taj might have poisoned Khan. Khan’s body was subjected to post-mortem twice, as his relative suspected foul play.

Both the times the post-mortem report declared that Khan had died due to natural causes. But Ihsanullah believed that Taj was behind his brother’s death and nursed a grudge against her, said the police.

A senior police officer said, “After Khan’s death, Taj took over the business and sacked all the men employed in the shop, some of whom are now suspects in the murder. Ihsanullah was furious that he could not take over the shop and was also angry over the sacking of employees.

He plotted the murder of Taj and her son, but failed.”  “He again plotted the murder with the help of sacked employees who held a grudge against Taj. They executed the plan on May 26. Based on vital clues, all 10 were arrested from various parts of the City,” added the officer.
