Indian Cancer Society is presenting ‘Beat Cancer Musical Night’ on June 5, 6.30 pm at Chowdiah Memorial Hall to celebrate the spirit of those who have survived cancer and to inspire all those who have been recently diagnosed with cancer.

Renowned musicians like Sivamani, Rahul Sharma, Stephen Devassy, U Rajesh, Giridhar Udupa, Bharadwaj Satthavalli and Satyajit Talwalkar will be performing at Chowdiah Memorial Hall to drum up support for this cause. These versatile and dynamic artistes will tune in tandem to create soulful, mesmerising and astounding music for this noble cause. Every year ‘Cancer Survivor’s Day’ is celebrated worldwide on the first Sunday of the month of June.

It is a day to celebrate life. With its objective to Beat Cancer in Karnataka, Indian Cancer Society intends to raise funds so that it can serve a larger number of people, with specific focus on the needy and low-income group patients. This event will also honour Venkat Panchapakesan, the head of Google’s Youtube, and former CEO of Yahoo!’s Center for his dynamism and his readiness to help those in need. Venkat recently passed away to GI cancer. Many people close to Venkat have contributed significantly and have joined forces with Indian Cancer Society in its fight against cancer.

Says Kishore Rao, Chairman Indian Cancer Society, Karnataka, “Cancer, in India, is now the second leading cause of death after cardiovascular disease; up from seventh in 2000. One third of the most common cancer types can be prevented.”

Incidence rates of breast, cervical and oral cancer in India are significantly higher when compared to global incidence rates. A large percentage of these incidences and associated mortality can be prevented.

While in India, incidence rates of breast, oral, lung and prostate cancers continue to rise, developed geographies have seen a reduction in incidence rates of breast and oral cancer.

This reduction has primarily been achieved through research, improved awareness levels and early cancer detection. Indian Cancer Society intends to use the proceeds from this event to reducing incidences of cancer by significantly increasing cancer awareness levels in the region and doing early detection camps.

Donor passes are available online on bookmyshow.com
