Report blames BWSSB for Queen's Corner incident

Last Updated 22 June 2015, 19:38 IST

The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board is responsible for the damage caused to Queen’s Corner apartment on Cunningham Road, according to a report submitted by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Technical Advisory Committee.

As per the report, the BWSSB replaced old water pipes and laid new ones in a haphazard manner due to which water was not moving with the flow and the pipelines began leaking. “Strict action should be taken against the engineers who executed the pipeline work,” said Prasad, chief engineer, BBMP (west zone).

The alignment of pipes is not proper and the BWSSB has shifted the pipelines following the incident, the report states.

When Deccan Herald contacted BWSSB officials, they denied the charges. “We are yet to get hold of the report and will look into the matter. Contrary to media reports, the pipelines were not leaking. It is due to the excavation at the adjoining housing project site that the building got destabilised and the compound wall came crashing down,” said a BWSSB official, on the condition of anonymity.

“Though it has been a week since the incident, most residents are staying in hotels and relatives’ homes,” said a resident of the apartment.
