The undertrial prisoner, who escaped from west Delhi’s Tihar Jail on June 27, was arrested by a joint team of Delhi Police and Tihar Jail on Tuesday.

Sources said Javed was nabbed in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district at 10 pm.
Joint raid

“Javed has been arrested at his native place at Gopathpur village in Gonda. A joint raid was conducted by a team from Hari Nagar police station and Tihar Jail,” said Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat.

Called in-laws
Sources said Javed had made a call to his in-laws after escaping from the jail.
“Javed told his in-laws that he was on way to their house in Gonda,” the source added.
He was nabbed on the basis of technical surveillance and after keeping an eye on his family members and relatives.

Shared number
Sources added that Javed was carrying a mobile phone and had shared the number with Faizan.

Faizan had revealed it during his interrogation by Hari Nagar police station in west Delhi.
Repeat offender Javed, a resident of south Delhi’s Deoli village, was jailed on June 2.
He was facing trial for cases of armed robbery, burglary and theft under Indian Penal Code and Arms Act.

Javed was first locked up from March 27 to April 23, when he was bailed out.
On June 27, Javed had planned to escape from the jail with fellow inmate Faizan.
Javed scaled walls, dug a tunnel and crossed a drain to escape.

Faizan was stuck in the drain with a fractured leg and was apprehended by the jail personnel on June 28.

Javed also went through the Tihar  Jail staff quarters, climbed another wall to enter a park near Tihar Jail director general Alok Kumar Verma’s residential complex and then walked out pretending to be a jail official.
