Two police constables were grievously injured when a speeding car driven by a drunk software engineer rammed into their bike near Kommaghatta Road in Kengeri in the early hours of Sunday.

According to the police, the injured have been identified as Anil Kumar and Andani, constables attached to the Kengeri police station. The accused Veerabhadra, 30, a software engineer and a resident of Nagadevanahalli, has been arrested.
Around 12.15 am, the constables who were on the night beat were riding towards Kommaghatta Road on their two-wheeler when a speeding car rammed into them from the rear and fled.

Due to the impact of the collision, Kumar and Andani fell to the ground and suffered serious injuries. They informed the police and a few policemen went to their rescue and shifted them to a hospital. They are said to be out of danger.

The neighbouring police station was alerted to trace the car driver. They went to the spot and examined the glass from the head light that had fallen on the ground and concluded that it was from a Hyundai Santro car.

The constables who were injured had failed to notice the registration number of the vehicle as the car sped from the place, added the police.

On Sunday morning, policemen who were on their rounds noticed a Santro car with broken headlights. They immediately stopped the vehicle and questioned the driver who confessed to having committed the crime.

A test conducted on Veerabhadra showed that he had around 440 mg of alcohol in his blood. He told the police that he went to the Satellite Club on Kommaghatta Road after work and consumed alcohol. He went home after committing the offence and drank again. He was arrested while he was on his way to a garage to get his car repaired, said a police official.

The Kengeri police have arrested Veerabhadra, registered  a case and also seized his car.
