Anti-Raje lobby back RSS protest

Last Updated 07 July 2015, 18:57 IST

The stand-off between the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Vasundhara Raje-led state government continues with former sticking to its plan to bring state capital to a halt on Thursday.

Several right wing organisations backed by the RSS took out rallies in Jaipur city on Tuesday to publicise their two hour long “Chakka Jam” and appealed to the people to join the protest.
Many BJP legislators who are seen as opponents of Vasundhara Raje have also announced their complete support to RSS over this issue.

As per the initial plans, around 40 teams have been constituted comprising of RSS workers and members of other right wing organisations. These teams will be deployed in different areas of the city between 9 am to 11 am to bring state capital to a halt.

“We will not let the state government act like foreign invaders who had played with the sentiments of Hindus by razing their religious structure. During the rally we have received huge support from the locals. We have distributed the pamphlets and lot of people will join us during two-hour-long Chakka Jam on Thursday,” said Arun Sharma of Hindu Jagran Manch.

Son-in-law of former vice president and BJP legislator from Vidhyadhar Nagar Narpat Singh Rajvie has even written a letter to chief minister expressing his resentment over demolition of temples in Jaipur. Over a dozen of BJP legislators who could not get any ministerial berth in BJP government have also mobilised their resources to strengthen the RSS protest.
After the Lalit Modi controversy, opponents in BJP camp are finding present controversy an opportune moment to corner Raje.

Interestingly, UDH minister Rajpal Singh Shekhawat has pulled up Jaipur Development Authority over their report on demolition drive.  The minister has said that several temples in the city were razed by JDA without taking any permission.

Shekhawat said that empowerment committee had given a list of 476 illegal religious structures of which only 46 temples were demolished. Shekhawat asked JDA officials that with whose permission remaining 30 structures were demolished.

Meanwhile, the state Congress party has also started targeting Raje publicly over this issue but leaders have all the political compulsions for not going with RSS.  Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot said that both RSS and BJP are hand in glove and RSS is staging the entire drama just to show its Hindutva stand.

“Why RSS has woken up after demolition of over 100 temples in Jaipur. Some of the temples were over two century old. In congress tenure we have not demolished even a single temple. Congress does not play with religious sentiments of the people,” said Gehlot.
