A real estate businessman consumed pesticide and attempted suicide in front of the Vidhana Soudha on Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, Putteswamy Gowda, a native of Mandya, went to the Vidhana Soudha and requested the security guard to allow him to meet the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. But he was denied the permission. After a few minutes, Gowda took out a bottle of pesticides which he was carrying in a bag and gulped it.

The guards and public noticed him lying on the ground and frothing from his mouth. When they checked, they found the pesticide bottle next to him. They rushed him to Bowring Hospital. The doctors have stated that he is out of danger, the police said.

Gowda had invested heavily on a vast land in Mysuru along with a few of his friends. Later, he learnt that he was cheated by his friends and neither got the land nor the money. A few months ago, he had also approached the police officers in Mysuru and lodged a complaint.

He claimed that no action was taken and wanted to meet the chief minister and discuss the problem. But he was dejected when he was not allowed to meet the Chief Minister and took the drastic step, the police added.

“We have informed his family members and necessary action will be taken and the matter will be probed,” a police official said.
