JOIN USThe Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing charges of corruption in the anti-graft ombudsman on Friday conducted the spot mahazar at the Lokayukta office here.
The Lokayukta police had registered an FIR against Y Ashwin, son of Lokayukta Justice Bhaskar Rao, for extortion, cheating, criminal conspiracy and taking gratification to influence public servant, on July 1.
The Investigating Officer (IO), Labhu Ram, along with DySPs Simon, Raghavendra Hegde and other officials came to the Lokayukta office here along with M N Krishnamurthy, Executive Engineer, Bengaluru Urban Zilla Panchayat, who was reportedly threatened by Ashwin on May 4.
Krishnamurthy showed the SIT officials places on the second floor of the Lokayukta office where he was asked to come on May 4. Krishnamurthy has stated that after reaching the Lokayukta office, he had again called Ashwin, who asked him to come to the second floor.
The events
While on the phone, Krishnamurthy was asked to come to the conference room, next to Joint Commissioner (PRO) Syed Riyaz’s chamber.
On entering the conference hall, Ashwin had ordered Krishnamurthy to switch off the phone and threatened him that his name would be added in the next list of officials to be raided by Lokayukta SP Sonia Narang.
At the time of mahazar, a few staff members of the PRO’s office were also present. Sources said that questioning of others present during the incident on May 4 will take place later.
Meanwhile, the queries put forth by the SIT on CCTV footage and the recording system at the Lokayukta building has put the administrative wing into a tizzy.
