Room for fuzzy ones

Little bundles of fur and love, pets are an integral part of many lives. Be it a Persian cat, a labrador dog or a guinea pig, animals nuzzle their way into our homes and hearts with all their adoration. So, it makes sense to show them our appreciation with some pampering.

The most important place for your pet at home is its bed. It can be anything – a cosy wool bed or a satin sofa bed. But before you head out to the pet store for the perfect nook, look within your own home. Yes, your abode can actually give you many opportunities to create something unique and personal for your animal friend. Imagine the moolah you would be saving by this approach! So, here are some fabulous ‘do it yourself’ pet bed ideas:

Recycle old furniture pieces
Look for old, wooden side-tables, suitcases and wooden boxes, which you wish to discard. Don’t throw them away. You can recycle them into unique, comfortable pet beds that are also environment-friendly. Place old ottomans on upside-down side tables and voila! You have a wonderful four-poster bed exclusively for your pet.

For a more detailed nook, employ small tables that have doors on them. This helps you create space for more than one small dog in different shelves. Or you can also store your pet’s toys in the shelves. Place colourful pillows for an attractive appeal.

Suitcase for a bed
Remove the upper lid of your old suitcase. Place a nice colourful cushion and
deploy pretty pops of colours with some laces and ribbons to hide the mechanics of the suitcase. You will have a nice handy bed, which will not disturb you or increase your work load, if your four-legged little one makes it untidy. What’s  more, no fur on the carpet and no litter on the floor. Don’t forget to tuck his favourite toys in the luggage pockets.

Reuse the old TV console
You want to do away with your old TV retro unit? Turn it into a king-size dog bed. Rip out the old console’s electronic guts and paint it in nice, pleasing colours. Place a comfy cushion and bolsters in a coordinating pattern and you have a perfect bed exclusively for your pet, who likes a cosy sleeping corner.

Redo the drawers
Some tables have huge drawers, which can be pulled out completely. Take them out, paint them in attractive colours, place some pillows and you will have separate beds ready for the babies. You can even paint or affix their names on the front to designate which pup sleeps where.

Make a cardboard world
Turn a cardboard box into a bed for a small pet by cutting out an entrance and lining it with a soft fabric or pillows or a blanket. Fill it up with toys your pooch likes and see how happy he is in his cardboard world. No matter what you choose, always remember to clean the cushions and covers regularly. Ensure no dirt, dust or fur remains. To eliminate the stench, use some fragrant detergents or baking soda. Wash the toys regularly in the washing machine if possible. In case you decide to use any stench-eliminating sprays, make sure that they are non-toxic.

So, go ahead and put together a special space for your furry friends at home. There’s nothing like watching them enjoy the fruits of your labour!
