At Cubbon Park's cultural event, some health advice too

The ninth edition of the weekly cultural programme at Cubbon Park saw music recital as well as an awareness campaign on mosquito-borne diseases.

The day kick-started with the ‘Udyanavanadalli Udayaraaga’ (Morning raga in the garden) held by the Department of Kannada and Culture in association with the Horticulture Department. Thereafter, the Health Department conducted an awareness campaign on dengue and chikungunya. The department’s staff had set up a stall, showing how live mosquito larvae grow in stagnant water. Visitors were educated about the ill effects of stagnant water and the ways to prevent mosquito-borne diseases.

Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader, who inaugurated the stall, announced such campaigns at all lung spaces in the future. Visitors were given pamphlets on dos and don’ts on dengue. A health check-up camp was also conducted to check BP, diabetes.

There were also recreational activities. The Women and Child Welfare Department in association with Bal Bhavan Society conducted traditional dance performances. A police band performed too. In the evening, there was musical concert ‘Udyanavanadalli Sandhyaraaga’.

The Kannada Development Authority held a literary session on Kannada poet Kuvempu, in which his poems were sung. There was also a lecture on the great poet by author Dr C G Lakshmipathi.  For cycling enthusiasts, there were free cycle rides within the park.

Stalls were set up by Jaivik Krishik Society, the Karnataka State Mango Development Board and the Nurserymen Cooperative Society Ltd where fresh fruits, vegetables, ornamental plants and saplings were sold.
