Protection of Kannada should be everyone's duty: Seer

Veerabhadra Channamalla Swami of Nidumamidi mutt said language is necessary for discipline, restraint, better lifestyle and education.

Speaking at the fourth taluk-level Kannada Sahitya Sammelana organised by Taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat organised at Srirama Seetharamaiah Kalyana Mantapa at Chelur in the taluk recently, the seer said protection of Kannada language should be everyone’s duty.

“Kannada gets the first priority among the five Dravidian languages. People should accept Kannada realistically, not just emotionally,” he observed.

“Kannada literature and culture can be protected through language-based activities, awareness, enthusiasm and motivation. The tradition of this land can be strengthened further if students are taught Kannada in a scientific way from the school level,” the seer said.

He called upon elected representatives to encourage children’s education and cleanliness. They should also support empowerment of women. The elected representatives should abolish discrimination in the society and protect equally, he added.

The seer said water problem has become severe in the taluk and people are falling ill due to consumption of fluoride water. No solution has been found for this problem yet, he remarked.

Chairing over the Sammelana, writer Dr Ramaiah said globalisation is affecting Kannada and everyone should think about it. He called upon Kannadigas to accord priority to Kannada language. Legislator S N Subbareddy said everyone should work for Kannada language and understand its significance.

He said a Kittur Rani Channamma residential school has been sanctioned at Venkatapura village in Chelur hobli. The school will be constructed at a cost of Rs 10 crore. A four-lane road will be laid between Bagepalli and Chelur in the coming days, he added.
