India denies permission to Pak diplomats to travel to Chandigarh

Last Updated 28 July 2015, 20:01 IST

Islamabad’s envoy to New Delhi, Abdul Basit, dropped his plan to visit Chandigarh on Wednesday, after the Ministry of External Affairs denied permission to three other officials of High Commission of Pakistan to accompany him to the capital of Punjab.

The MEA’s denial to approve travel of Pakistan High Commission’s officials to Chandigarh came a day after the deadly terrorist attack at Gurdaspur in Punjab once again cast a shadow on New Delhi’s engagement with Islamabad.

Basit was scheduled to meet Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Haryana Chief Minister M L Khattar on Wednesday. Both Badal and Khattar however cancelled their meetings with High Commission of Pakistan after the terror attack at Gurdaspur on Monday.
