Families of kidnapped baffled by MEA silence

Baffled by the silence of Ministry of External Affairs, families of teachers kidnapped in Libia are desperately patching together information of their dearones from various sources.

“I spoke to him a week ago. He was happy that he was coming home,” Tiruveedhula Kalyani, wife of one of the kidnapped professors of CERT Gopikrishna, told Deccan Herald.

“I urge the government to ensure his safe return.” Gopikrishna was on his way to Tripoli to board a flight that would have taken him home through Tunisia and Dubai, but kidnappers stopped his taxi and captured the passengers after letting the driver free.

Gopikrishna, a native of Tekkali in Srikakulam district of northern Andhra Pradesh, has been teaching in CERT since 2007. He visited his wife and children in Hyderabad once a year in August.

When news of his kidnapping broke out, Kalyani and her children reached Gopikrishna’s younger brother Murali Krishna in Veera Reddy colony here. Kalyani did not inform her two children, a boy and a girl, about the kidnapping.
