A 30-year-old man working at a service station in Devanahalli was electrocuted and the driver of a container lorry suffered severe burns when electricity passed through the heavy vehicle they were cleaning on Friday afternoon.

Around 1.30 pm, a container lorry pulled up at Maruti Service Centre. Lepakshi alias Lokesh, a worker at the service station, went into the container and started cleaning it. The lorry driver, Subhash Singh Yadav, climbed atop it to check if everything was alright. As he climbed, his head touched a high tension wire and electric current passed through him and through the entire container, said the police.

Lepakshi, who was inside the container, was electrocuted while Yadav sustained severe burn injuries. Other workers at the station heard Yadav screaming and rushed to the spot. They took the duo to a hospital. Lepaksh was declared brought dead while Yadav was referred to Victoria Hospital. He is undergoing treatment and said to be out of danger.

The police inspected the spot and have asked Bescom officials to submit a report. Based on the complaint filed by Lepakshi’s father Ranganath, a negligence case has been registered against Yadav and Venkatesh, the owner of the service centre, said the police.
