Govt agencies told to follow norms while digging roads

Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner G Kumar Naik on Monday instructed chief engineers of eight Palike zones to follow guidelines while digging roads and laying new roads in the City.

Addressing the Palike engineers and representatives from various government agencies such as Bescom, Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) among others, Naik said, “Ducts need to be constructed while laying new main roads in the City to avoid stagnation of water and smooth flow of rainwater. The works proposed by the civic agency can be executed on time only if government departments respond promptly and cooperate with us.”

Permission necessary
He added that the digging of roads in the City should be carried out only after getting permission from the BBMP and registering the work details on the Palike website.

Referring to rampant water leakages in the City, Naik said that they have identified 150 places of water leakage in the Palike limits and the the BWSSB officers had been instructed to fix the leaks.

Naik said, “The TenderSURE (Specifications for Urban Road Extension) are getting delayed due to difficulty in shifting of public utilities. Funds will be released for shifting of utilities such as transformers and water and sanitary lines to complete the project at the earliest.

To begin with, the public utilities on Kempegowa Road, Siddaiah Puranik Road, Modi Hospital Road and 11th Cross, Jayanagar will be shifted. 

A total amount of Rs 2.5 lakh will be released to shift the signal and CCTV camera located om Cunningham Road,” he added.
