Omar Abdullah bats for restart of India-Pakistan dialogue

Jammu, Jan 28 (IANS)

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday urged resumption of the India-Pakistan dialogue for the sake of peace in the state.

"The suspension of the dialogue has strengthened the hands of the forces inimical to Indo-Pak friendship," Abdullah told reporters on the sideline of a function.

The chief minister said that this was clear from the resumption of firing on the border. "There were no such incidents on the border, when Indo-Pak dialogue was on," he said, referring to almost daily infiltration bids and firing on the Line of Control and the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir.

The peace process between the two countries was suspended after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. India claims that the attack was planned on Pakistani soil. Abdullah lambasted his critics who charge him and his government with doing nothing.

"They (critics) should come out and see how the pace of work has picked up in many sectors. The pace is at a higher speed than it was ever in the past six years," he said.
