Cisco MD pushes re-use of car parking spaces

 Cisco Consulting Services India Managing Director Aamer Azeemi said that technology alone cannot solve any challenges, whether it is in transportation sector or in smart cities.

Addressing a panel discussion on ‘Innovation in Infrastructure for Transportation’ organised by CII here on Friday, Azeemi said, “Technology is an enabler and has to work along with smart planning, infrastructure, and smart governance.”

He added, “There are lots of best practices from the western world which need to be adopted and adapted to  Indian standards which could address some of the common challenges that we see from urbanisation perspective.”

Illustrating, he said, one simple idea would be to re-use parking facility available in office complexes during non-office hours for regular city population, and vice versa during office hours in a residential complex. This should address a lot of the parking challenges in Indian cities today, he said.
