HC seeks objections

Last Updated 27 August 2015, 19:38 IST

The High Court on Thursday directed the State to file objections to a petition filed by Smaat India Private Limited seeking directions to provide water and power supply  to the defluoridation units at 400 villages in five districts.

The petitioner stated that the government set up these units at the cost of Rs 70 crore on a cost-sharing basis. The State sanctioned Rs 25 crore while the company invested Rs 45 crore. The units were set up in Davangere, Mandya, Vijayapura, Tumakuru and Chitradurga districts.

The petitioner contended that the government has failed to provide water and electricity supply to these units for the past two years. As per the terms of the agreement, if the government fails to provide the facilities to run the plant, then the plant would remain with the private company.  Justice Raghavendra S Chauhan directed the State government to file their objection and adjourned the hearing till Sept 2, 2015.
