RSS to review Centre's performance next week

The RSS is expected to review the NDA government's functioning during a three-day meeting from next Wednesday, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi may show up, senior ministers in tow.

Though RSS functionaries are describing it as a routine “samanvay” (coordination) meeting between them and the BJP, sources said the Sangh will take up issues their seniors have picked to draw the government’s attention to.

Heads of other right-wing affiliates, including those of farmers’ outfit Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) and Swadesh Jagran Manch, have also been invited for the meeting here.

An RSS swayamsewak (volunteer), Modi is likely to attend the meeting along with party chief Amit Shah, said a BJP leader. The RSS will be represented by its top brass, including chief Mohan Bhagwat, besides functionaries from different states, who will share local feedback on the Central government.

Union ministers will participate to hear suggestions and address issues raised at the meeting regarding their departments, said sources.

For instance, in a similar meeting held six months ago, the BMS had raised issues pertaining to the Labour Ministry and the Swadeshi Jagran Manch had drawn the Commerce Ministry’s attention to things they thought the Centre should listen to.

Though it is a coordination meeting between the ruling party and its affiliates, the issue of Bihar Assembly elections is also expected to crop up as the BJP will utilise the Sangh's large human resource network to assess and fine-tune its electoral strategy.
