Debt-ridden farmer ends life

The deceased has been identified as Murthy, a resident of Deshadapet. According to sources, Murhty was disappointed as he could not clear the loan obtained from a bank. Murthy had borrowed Rs 4 lakh and Rs 1.5 lakh was due to be paid. As the taluk didn’t receive the rain, he feared that he would not be able to repay the loan.

On Monday, when Murthy didn’t return home even in the night, his relative Subrayappa and his son Ravi went searching for Murthy. They found him lying in the farm near the house. On learning that he had consumed poison, they immediately rushed him to the nearby government hospital. However, he didn’t respond to the treatment and breathed his last on Tuesday night. A case of unnatural death has been registered. Tahsildar Reshma Tahasina and officer of the Agriculture Department visited the spot.
