Former Yediyur corporator and BJP leader N R Ramesh has accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, his Cabinet colleagues, MLAs and Congress leaders of making the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike “a den of corruption”.

Amid the tug of war between political parties to gain control over the BBMP, Ramesh fired a salvo on Tuesday, claiming that Siddaramaiah had “patronised the transfer business” in the BBMP by posting several corrupt officials to the civic body.

“The High Court of Karnataka had directed the chief minister’s office in 2013 not to poke its nose into transfer-related matters of the BBMP, but this interference continues. Officials still bring recommendation letters from these high offices to get a posting in the BBMP,” Ramesh suggested.

He cited the case of D Ranganath, a Public Works Department (PWD) engineer who is on deputation to the BBMP as an assistant executive engineer in the Chamarajpet subdivision.

Due to serious cases of dereliction of duty, BBMP Administrator T M Vijay Bhaskar had ordered Ranganath’s repatriation on April 28, 2015.

Two days later, an order to this effect was passed by the administration division of the BBMP. But on May 6, the chief minister scrapped the order passed by the administrator and reinstated Ranganath in the same post, the BJP leader alleged.

Ramesh also recalled how the chief minister’s secretary, K R Srinivas, issued a recommendation letter to the BBMP commissioner to release Rs three crore to contractor C Ramamurthy, disregarding the seniority list.

The BJP leader cited at least four more cases of ministers, MLAs and leaders of the Congress party pulling strings in the BBMP to get their men posted.

Ramesh said, “Ever since the administrator took over, 38 engineers were posted from various departments to the Town Planning section and eight engineers to the Major Roads division. If this transfer business doesn’t stop here, I will go to court.”
