Awareness rally on dengue and chikungunya today

Last Updated 02 September 2015, 22:07 IST

The BBMP will organise a rally at HMT grounds in RT Nagar at 9 am on Thursday to create awareness about dengue and chikungunya fever.

Of the 3,366 cases reported in the State, 1,096 are in BBMP limits and 243 in Bengaluru Urban district. As for chikungunya, 1,321 cases have been reported in Karnataka; 367 in BBMP limits alone.

Officials from civic bodies and students from schools and colleges in the surrounding areas would attend it.

Doctors say the number of cases has been coming down steadily, though sporadic cases are still being reported. A Palike official said Hebbal, Yelahanka and RT Nagar reported many chikungunya and dengue cases.

Bengaluru also saw several viral arthritis cases last month, but this is on the decline. “We would see about 20 cases daily. Now, it’s just about four a day,” said Ajit Benedict Royan of Hosmat Hospital.
