Wipro to be Chelsea's centre-forward in its digital game plan

Last Updated 03 September 2015, 13:24 IST

Country's third-largest software services firm Wipro today said it has been chosen as the official digital and IT partner for Chelsea Football Club.

The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Wipro will support Chelsea FC in its digital transformation journey by bringing together strategy, design and technology, it said in a statement.

Chelsea FC, the reigning champions of the English Premier League, has been one of the earliest adopters of digital to engage and differentiate themselves – both as a team and as a club.

"The partnership will help Chelsea FC re-imagine the digital and technology experience. Chelsea FC will work with Wipro to create experiences for millions of fans that span not only the in-stadium, game-day experience but also their digital experience, anytime and anywhere," it said.

Yesterday, Manchester United football club also announced a global partnership with HCL Technologies for undertaking digital initiatives to transform the experience of the former's 659 million followers around the world.

Commenting on the partnership with Wipro, Chelsea FC Managing Director Christian Purslow said: "We plan on using this partnership to truly enhance the fan experience for millions of Chelsea supporters worldwide. Wipro’s expertise will help sustain our position as the digital leader in global sport".

Founded in 1905, Chelsea is London's most central football club, based at the iconic 42,000-capacity Stamford Bridge stadium. Nicknamed 'The Blues', the club is four-time English Premier League champion.
