Sheena murder was planned overseas

Ten days after her arrest, as TV tycoon Peter Mukerjea’s wife Indrani Mukerjea started spilling the beans on the murder of her daughter Sheena Bora, it now appears that the conspiracy was hatched in phases — partly in India and partly abroad in Europe.

The 24-year-old Sheena, who was Indrani’s daughter from a live-in relationship with Siddhartha Das, was killed by her mother, who took the help of her first husband, Kolkata-based businessman Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyam Rai. She was murdered on April 24, 2012, in Mumbai and her body was burnt and disposed of at Pen in Raigad district. Sheena was in a relationship with Rahul, the son of Peter Mukerjea, and intented to marry her step-brother.

The conspiracy, according to police sources, was hatched between January and April 2012 and Indrani and Sanjeev were in touch over cellphones and Skype.

On Thursday, all the three accused – Indrani, Sanjeev and Shyam – were constantly interrogated by a team of officers at the Khar police station. Besides, Mukerjea, too was questioned for the second consecutive day.  It is still, however, officially not confirmed whether Indrani and Peter Mukerjea were confronted with each other.

Whatever Indrani has being saying was being matched with the statements of her current husband, Peter, and first husband, Sanjeev.

Money trail

The technical team of experts from the police, who are also investigating the money trail, are going deep into the financial transactions within the family. Besides, transactions between Indrani and Sanjeev are also checked following revelation that in exchange of the murder, she was to help the latter financially to resurrect his business.

That Indrani arrived on April 23, 2012 from London – and undertook the recee mission with Shyam – and the next day, Khanna joined them shows the detailed planning of the murder. “There are several details that we have established during the questioning,” the sources said, adding that on Saturday, when the three accused would be produced before the Bandra magistrate's court, they would have to apprise of the status.
