Bengalureans can now see the marble wonder of the world, Taj Mahal, in their own City instead of going all the way to Agra. Chennai-born Malaysian artist Shekar has created a replica of the medieval wonder in wood near Jayadeva Hospital on Bannerghatta Road.

He said Taj Mahal is an awe-inspiring wonder and he has made its huge replica using different materials, primarily wood, fibre, plywood, casuarinas poles, silver wood, Plaster of Paris and one tonne of nails, spending nearly Rs 1 crore.

Shekar, 56, said that he observed the Taj Mahal from different angles for different periods and then set upon making its replica. About 150 workers were involved in this work.

Shekar and his team took two months to create Taj Mahal in wood. But this is not the first time that Shekar has achieved this feat. Over the years he has created huge models of seven wonders of the world, Red Fort, White House etc. The Taj Mahal in wood is a huge work of inspired art. It stands tall at 40 feet and has a width of 70 feet by 70 feet and is spread over a total area of 200 feet by 200 feet. The wood wonder is on display from September 10  to November 1 near Jala Bhavan and Bilal Masjid, next to Jayadeva Hospital on Bannerghatta Road everyday from 4 to 9pm.
