Two more victims succumbed to dengue in the city, taking the reported death toll to at least nine this season as per the records of individual hospitals. However, the municipal bodies here have officially confirmed only two deaths till now.

A six-month-old girl died at the North Delhi Municipal Corporation-run Bara Hindu Rao Hospital on August 28. Even though the infant had tested positive for dengue, the civic body has not counted the death in its official data so far.

“A six-month-old girl died of dengue shock syndrome on August 28. The girl was admitted with high fever. The ELISA test had confirmed she was suffering from dengue. Another patient in the hospital is currently in critical condition,” said a senior doctor at Bara Hindu Rao Hospital.

The other death was reported late on Thursday night at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

Earlier, the RML had reported the death of a three-year-old boy due to dengue infection. The hospital administration, however, did not disclose the name and age of the deceased.
“There is one confirmed dengue death reported on September 10. We will notify the municipal body of the death as per the protocol,” said a senior doctor at RML Hospital.

The number of suspected dengue deaths at the Centre-run RML Hospital has, however, touched 11, said hospital administration.

“The number of suspected dengue deaths at the hospital is 11 till September 11. The data reflects the suspected deaths in last two months. In several cases, the patients expire before they are tested for dengue or the reports may arrive later.
Patients turning up with high fever and symptoms of dengue are admitted to the hospital. The treatment is started before the investigation of the fever in such cases,” said the senior doctor.

In such cases, the investigation not completed before the patient has expired or the ELISA test reports have either not arrived till now. In several cases, the medical files are closed after a patient’s death, said doctors.

On Friday, Deccan Herald had reported two more deaths — at the Delhi government-run Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital and another at AIIMS. The total number of dengue cases have crossed 1,200 this season.

Hospitals across the city have reported an overcrowding of emergencies in the last two weeks with a spike in fever cases.
