This snack shop offers its customers a unique taste without doing any research to achieve it. ‘Bharani Mixture Sweets And Savouries’, which has branches in New Thippasandra and NGEF Layout, goes by the tried, tested and trusted home recipes by the 78-year-old Andalamma. Andalamma is the mother of Rajendran N, who set up this shop in 1989.

This joint speaks of humble beginnings and Rajendran says that he grew up eating the crispy ‘murukkus’, mixture and sweets made by his mother. He points out that he never had to go out and buy any of these snacks, for they were all made at home. “The condiments and sweets that are made at our eatery are an extension of my mother’s recipes. She used to dry and grind all the ‘masalas at home and never buy anything from outside,” explains Rajendran.

The place stocks over 70 varieties of savouries and sweets, with chocolates being the latest entrant to the place. The reins of the business are now taken over by Rajendran’s sons — Vijayanand RA and Vijay Arvind RA. Vijayanand, the eldest of the two, says that he was going to pursue his higher studies when he was asked to step into the family business. “My children have added new dimensions to the business. They have incorporated their ideas and started looking at the business from a fresh perspective,” adds Rajendran.

supervise the work in the kitchen. They make sure the ingredients are added in right quantities and cooked perfectly. “The speciality of our savouries is that it is oil-free. The oil is drained by machines that have been especially bought for the purpose,” explains Vijayanand.

Their products are also available at some of the bakeries, restaurants and fast food joints across the City. Sunitha Raghunath, a professional, who lives near NGEF Layout, says that she buys snacks from this place every other day. “I usually don’t encourage eating fried food at home, but the ones that you get here don’t leave a burning sensation in the stomach or leave you feeling heavy. It’s fresh and crisp,” she says. Nidhi, a student, who lives in Indiranagar, says she walks up to the joint in New Thippasandra whenever she has guests at home. “You get to choose from a lot of things such as ‘kara mixture,’ ‘murukkus’, sweets and chocolate. The variety is enviable,” she says.

The eatery is located at No 234/A, 1st Main, 5th Cross, HAL, III Stage, New Thippasandra. For details, call 9986692110.
