Special magistrate accused of dowry harassment

Four persons, including a special magistrate, have been booked on charge
of dowry harassment at the women’s police station, in the city.

Gangadharaiah, a special magistrate at the Special Magistrate Court constituted for petty cases here, is facing the charge of harassing his daughter-in-law Dhanalakshmi.

Gangadharaiah’s wife Jayamma, elder son Vishwanath and daughter-in-law Rohini are the co-accused in the case.

Dhanalakshmi had married Kailash, the younger son of Gangadharaiah, in 2012. They were residing in a common house at Kuvempunagar Third Stage here. A few months after the marriage, the accused started to harass Dhanalakshmi for dowry. They were allegedly abusing and forcing her to leave for her parents’ house.

Gangadharaiah, who retired as the deputy director for Food and Civil Supplies Department, has been nominated as a special magistrate to the court constituted to try cases of traffic violations.

Charge against doctor
In another case, a woman has lodged a case of attempt to murder against her husband.
Dr Rajalakshmi, a faculty at JSS Medical College and Hospital, Bannimantap, has accused her husband Dr Vishwanath, who works in the same college.

In her complaint, Rajalakshmi has alleged, “My husband tried to strangulate me on Saturday morning. He was issuing life threats and was also subjecting me to physical torture from several years”.

The couple are married for nine years and have two children. They are residents of JSS Layout in the city.
