Visitors to the Freedom Park on Saturday enjoyed a slice of rural life.
A variety of rural games, rural cuisine and rural costumes were available for them to try on at the “Halli Habba,” organised by Vidyaranya, Reaching Hand, and India Cares, in association with Prajavani and Deccan Herald.

Several enthusiasts tried their hands at lagori, buguri, kunte-bille, aanekallu, haggada aata, pagade and kolata, among others. Visitors also got a chance to pound grains, make rotis and try their hands at pottery. An array of handicrafts were also on display. Fun contests for men who flaunted longest moustache and women with longest hair, was also held.

The final rounds of these contests will be held on Sunday, the second day of the event. Bengaluru district in-charge minister Ramalinga Reddy inaugurated the event and also tried his luck at a few rural games.

M C Prakash, secretary, Vidyaranya, said it was for the first time such an event was organised.

“We plan to have one such every year,” he added.
