The Delhi government is likely to be dragged to court by the BJP-ruled South Corporation on the alleged non-payment of funds totalling Rs 970 crore.

The corporation is likely to initiate legal process for recovering the money under various heads including municipal reform fund and education.

The corporation’s standing committee, headed by Radhey Shyam Sharma, passed a resolution directing the commissioner to take steps to legally fight for the funds that the civic agency deserves under the Constitution.

The committee passes a resolution that the corporation should file a petition in the Delhi High Court to fight for its right, said a resolution in Hindi passed on Tuesday.

Sharma, in his personal capacity, earlier approached the court but the judges refused to hear his personal plea claiming that only the civic agency had a “cause of action” to file the suit.

According to the resolution, the Delhi government owes Rs 567 crore under municipal reforms fund, Rs 120 crore under education head for 2014-15, and Rs 87 crore under the Global Share of taxes and Rs 204 crore under the head grand and aid.
