Masumi Mewawalla was introduced to bright lights and grand sets as a child, when she debuted as an actor in the popular soap opera ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’.

Her journey into the entertainment industry took a new turn when she quit acting to pursue her studies and later landed in the glamourous net of fashion designing. She was caught; the creativity that went behind designing a simple fabric bowled her over and there was no looking back ever since.

Says Masumi, “Fashion was a sweet accident to me.” It was on her mother’s birthday that she decided to give a test to her creative side and designed a sari with shades of pink and silver velvet pieces, bordered with pearl. This six-yard was in fact a wonder and became her first step to a whole new expedition into the fashion world.

“It is only when I stepped into the industry did I understand its complexities. Every person I met was a designer and it was a tough net. But my first two shows as a designer were a boost to my confidence and an eye-opener to all the fashion cultures and rituals. Happiness was when the audience appreciated my designs and called them ‘princess-y’,” she says, excitedly.

Her first clients were a bride and groom and she designed an Indo-Western wedding wear for the couple. The success story that began here led her to start her own establishment under the name ‘Pink Peacock Couture’. She explains, “The colour pink is very close to me and the peacock symbolises royalty, hence the name.”

Featuring a wide selection of Indian and Western wear for men and women, the label showcases bridal wear that combines Swarovski crystals and intricate fabric detailing. “It is the fairytale aura that surrounds each and every garment. With perfect implementations of ruffled nets, satins and silks, they give a royal feel. The label specialises in seamless creation of bridal couture to suit a multitude of personalities on their perfect day.” With darker shades of blue and maroon, her embellishments have an Indian touch with Western silhouettes.

Travel being her inspiration, she will soon start her second label dedicated to casual Western wear. She says, “I take a diplomatic stand when it comes to following the trend. Keeping in mind the minor aspects of what is trending, I believe I am a trendsetter and see no restrictions in my creative rush.” She elaborates on her design philosophy, “My designs are inspired by love and made with love. I believe that everyone deserves to look beautiful every time of everyday and everywhere.”
