BJP to protest Rahul's visit in State

State BJP President Pralhad Joshi has stated that BJP workers would stage protests at places in the State where AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi would visit, if he fails to make the Congress’ stand on Mahadayi issue clear before that.

Joshi told mediapersons here on Wednesday that the Congress in Goa, and at the Centre, always opposed diversion of water from Mahadayi river to Malaprabha river, and therefore, Rahul Gandhi should discuss the issue with AICC President Sonia Gandhi and Congress leaders in Goa before coming to Karnataka, and should make the party’s stand clear.

“He is coming to meet the families of those who committed suicide, but the Congress in the State is making preparations for a celebration event,” Joshi said.

He asked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to take an all-party delegation to Goa, to convince all parties there, about the need to implement Mahadayi project, and to create a consensus to settle the dispute out of the tribunal.

A special session of the State legislature should be called to discuss about farmers’ problems, Lokayukta and other issues. Unable to tolerate the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Siddaramaiah is blaming him. And if he continues to speak so, the BJP workers would show black flags to him wherever he goes, Joshi added.

Leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar opined that the State Government’s loan interest waiver scheme for farmers is meaningless, and it would not help many, as loan upto Rs three lakh is already interest free. Instead, farmers’ loan itself should be waived of, he said.
