Legislators have to play a proactive role in the effective implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act and also work towards creating awareness about the job opportunities available under the scheme, said Legislative Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa on Thursday.
He was addressing a meeting organised by the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj department to review the problems faced in the implementation of MNREGA.
If jobs are created in all the sectors, Karnataka can effectively utilise the earmarked funds to the tune of Rs 10,000 crore. However, this is not happening, which is why the role of the legislators was important, he said. RD and PR commissioner Munish Moudgil said when compared to 2011-12 and 2012-13, the number of person-days achieved were higher this year, he added.
