Three men have been accused of using a fake website to cheat unemployed youths on the pretext of providing jobs with online retailer Snapdeal.

An FIR was filed after Snapdeal’s owner approached Saket Court alleging that Delhi Police failed to initiate a probe into a complaint of fraud.

The complaint was filed with the offices of Delhi Police Commissioner Bhim Sain Bassi and Economic Offences Wing Deputy Commissioner of Police in January.

Police said it is alleged that a website with a similar name — snapdealcareers.com — was being used and youths looking for jobs were asked to make a payment of Rs 4,450.

“Snapdeal claims that they have never advertised for the filing of any post in the company through the fake website. It is also claimed that Snapdeal does not charge anything from jobseekers,” said a police officer.

Snapdeal had approached Delhi Police after they received complaints from victims, who were carrying job offer letters provided on the firm’s letterheads.

The letterheads were found to be forged.
The probe so far has revealed that the accused had also impersonated the owner of Snapdeal while purchasing the domain name.

Okhla-based Jasper Infotech runs Snapdeal. Sources said Jasper Infotech was listed as the owner of the fake website.

Through their probe, Snapdeal has also managed to arrange an e-mail ID and phone numbers used to purchase the domain name.

A case under Indian Penal Code, Information Technology Act, Copyright Act and Trade Marks Act has been filed with EOW police station.

The investigating officers have found that money deposited through the website was sent to two State Bank of India accounts in the names of Arjun Chouhan and Irfan Ahmed Vaddo.

“The job offer letters were issued by Sunil Kumar who represented himself to be the HR Manager of Snapdeal’s Delivery Department,” the officer added.
