Lalu thinks he is Big Boss, says Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi continued his attack on RJD chief Lalu Prasad and said the former chief minister of Bihar thinks he was the Big Boss. “Do you know why Lalu Prasad can’t contest elections,” he asked, in an oblique reference to RJD leader’s conviction in fodder scam.

Addressing a BJP rally in Sasaram on Friday, Modi said, “Even though Lalu can’t contest a poll, he wants to run Bihar through remote control. He thinks he is the Big Boss.”

Modi also criticised his bête noire Nitish Kumar and said that the JD (U) strongman had become so weak that he had to join hands with person like Lalu. “It’s only his thirst for power because of which he had to join hands with someone like Lalu who has been debarred from contesting elections,” said Modi.

This was the second consecutive day when Modi targeted Lalu more than Nitish. Aware of the fact the RJD chief still commands nearly 20 per cent votes in Bihar, the BJP has, a matter of strategy, continued to attack Lalu.

On Thursday, Modi had used terms like “Shaitan” for Lalu, which offended the RJD chief. The Election Commission, meanwhile, said it would examine prime ministers’s speech to find out whether it violated model code of conduct. “It’s a standard practice to review the speeches of all political leaders to examine whether there is any model code violation,” said additional chief electoral officer R Lakshmanan.

Lalu, on the other hand, addressing a gathering at Nathnagar in Bhagalpur said that Modi should publicly apologise for uncharitable remarks made against him.

Nitish too said that since the BJP has realised that its ground has slipped, its leaders are talking without any sense.
