Urad, tur dal prices set buyers' pulse racing

Last Updated 09 October 2015, 20:32 IST

With the prices of widely consumed pulses — tur and urad — nearing Rs 200 per kg, the government on Friday reviewed the price situation of essential commodities and directed officials to keep a close watch on their availability as well as work with state governments to check upward movement in rates.

While tur dal (pigeon pea) is selling at Rs 200 per kg at retail outlets, Urad is closely following the trend.

The price movement in tur dal is the sharpest — 150 per cent — since last October, when it was Rs 80 per kg.

Cabinet secretary P K Sinha reviewed the situation in a high-level meeting of secretaries of the Consumer Affairs, Food and PDS, Agriculture, Commerce and Expenditure Departments.
