Centre forcing farmers into submission, says Rahul

Modi govt wants them to surrender lands to corporates: Cong VP

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, on Saturday, charged that the Union government led by Narendra Modi was not waiving of loans, increasing minimum support price for farm produce and providing other incentives, as they want farmers to become submissive and surrender their lands to corporate houses.

Speaking at a public rally at Gudagur in Ranebennur taluk of the district, he said that there were a few close corporate friends of Modi, who have realised that the lands snatched from farmers now would fetch them huge amounts in a few years.

Modi has time to catch up with CEOs of multinational companies and chiefs of corporate houses in foreign countries. Every day we see photos of Modi shaking hands with ‘big shot guys’.

But, in the last one year in power, Modi has never been photographed standing next to a poor farmer or a labourer, he said.

He said that the Union government was discriminating against farmers of states ruled by the Congress. A farmer’s death in Karnataka would not make any difference to BJP leaders, he said.

The Congress vice-president said that his party succeeded in defeating the ordinance brought by the Modi government regarding land acquisition.  Gandhi was in Ranebennur to infuse confidence among farmers and appealed to them not to commit suicide. He held a padayatra of nearly seven kilometre from Maidur village to Channapur thanda.

Predicts win for grand alliance in Bihar

The grand alliance of  JD(U), RJD and Congress will win the Bihar elections, said Gandhi. Interacting with media persons, he said that it had become a strategy for BJP to flare up communal tension just before elections. Later, Modi plays the good Samaritans and asks people not to fight among themselves. People have seen through this strategy, he said.

Black flags greet Rahul

Gandhi had to face the wrath of people of Maidur village on Saturday, as a handful of them raised slogans against him and showed him black flags.
He was in Maidur to hand over compensation to the family members of Ashok Hanumanthappa Madiwal, who committed suicide on June 30.

The villagers have been facing inconvenience for the last four days due to the huge number of security personnel in the village. People were not allowed to attend nature’s call in the fields. “If Rahul was not interested in interacting with farmers, what was the need for him to come this far? Why do this ‘natak’ and cause hardship to us,” said one protestor. The BJP mahila morcha and yuva morcha staged a protest in Ranebennur on Saturday against the arrival of Gandhi.
