Ramya playing petty politics: MP

Last Updated 10 October 2015, 19:26 IST

Member of Parliament C S Puttaraju has accused ex-MP Ramya of playing petty politics in issuing a cheque for the family of the farmer, who had committed suicide recently.

Rahul Gandhi had handed over the KPCC cheque for Rs 1 lakh to Shobha, wife of the deceased farmer Lokesh of Sanabadakoppalu, on Friday, during his visit.

“Shobha was in grief and hence she did not pay attention to it. The cheque was lying on the ground beside her. District in-charge Minister Ambareesh saw this and felt that there were chances of the cheque getting misused. So, he picked it up and handed it over to me and asked me to open an account in the name of Shobha and deposit it. I passed on the cheque to a Grama Panchayat member, who is also a relative of Shobha and asked him to make arrangements to deposit the cheque in the name of the bereaved woman,” Puttaraju said.

After the schedule of Rahul Gandhi in Mandya was finalised, even Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister K J George had asked me to take responsibility as a MP during the Congress leader’s tour in the district, he recalled.

“Following Ramya’s complaint about the matter to AICC leaders, the cheque has been withdrawn. The GP member has returned it to the Congress leaders as Ambareesh called me and asked me to return the cheque because it has not been crossed. Was Rahul Gandhi invited to console the farmers and to pay them the compensation or to play petty politics?” he questioned.

Stating that he has brought the issue to the notice of Rahul Gandhi also, Puttaraju said he has urged him to issue suitable directions to the State government. “People will show where Ramya stands, if she contests an election now. People understand why she shuns public contact and visits the district discreetly,” he said.
