Google India is all set to get a new Country Marketing Head soon as Sandeep Menon’s ascendant career graph has taken him to Googleplex in Mountain View, California, with higher responsibilities.

According to sources familiar with the development, Sandeep Menon, who had been with Google India since January 2013, has already relinquished his responsibilities a fortnight ago and joined the company’s headquarters.

As marketing head of Google India, Sandeep contributed in taking the brand to various corners of the country with its products and services. The company is yet to name his successor.

When Deccan Herald contacted Menon, he stated that currently he is in California for some meetings. Google India Head of Consumer Public Relations Parul Batra said, “We do not comment on internal moves at Google.”

In a recent interaction with Deccan Herald during the Google House event, Menon had said the country is going through a unique moment in its history where technology is making deep impact.

“The smartphone revolution is transforming every aspect of our lives. Google India is very excited to partner this project to help showcase the story of evolving India and look forward to sharing this experience with everyone,” said Menon.

He also hoped India would reach the target of 500 million online users by 2017. As part of this initiative, the company conceived the ‘Internet Saathi’ programme, partnering with Intel and local charity organisations to send female tutors to travel through rural hinterlands.

Menon also wanted to tackle the language barrier in India by taking Google to other languages. “Only one in six Indians knows enough English to surf the Web in the language. But there are few Web pages in Hindi or India’s 21 other official languages. We are vigorously working with our developers to support more Indian languages and create more local-language content,” he said.

After finishing his graduation from the National Institute of Technology, Karnataka, in 1998, he started his career with the erstwhile i-flex Solutions as an Associate Consultant. After his four-year, five-month stint with SAP, he joined in Google in March 2007 as product marketing manager.

Since then, he served the company in various capacities as Senior Marketing Manager, Head of Acquisition Marketing (Europe Middle East and Africa), and Director of Small Business Marketing, EMEA, at London.
