Institute creates waves with interdisciplinary cures

Allopathy may be the pre-dominant means of treating health ailments. But an interdisciplinary approach involving not only allopathy, but also traditional remedies and knowledge systems like biomedicine and engineering may also yield the desired results.

The Transdisciplinary University (TDU) celebrated 5 years of its inception on Saturday and a number of its case studies may be proof of the strength of such an approach.
The institute gave several case studies. A 63-year-old man had developed a blackish discoloration with complete loss of sensation in the third right toe, an onset of gangrene.

While amputation was suggested, he wanted an alternative solution and came to the institute. After several external and internal Ayurveda medications, the gangrene sloughed off without any surgical intervention and the toe got healed completely. Another case is that of a four-year-old girl diagnosed with a neurodegenerative disease.

Six months of treatment at the institute have enabled her to sit and stand up with
support, TDU claimed.

Governor Vajubhai Vala, who presided over the function, called the efforts of the institute “futuristic”.

The governor pointed out that no single system of healthcare had the best solutions for all our health needs. Allopathy is excellent for emergencies and surgery. Ayurveda, Homeopathy and Yoga are best for chronic conditions.

Darshan Shankar, Vice Chancellor, I-AIM TDU, said, “The centre has served more than a lakh out-patients and close to 5,000 in-patients since its inception.”
