Forced to hang head in shame: Ramdas to Modi

Last Updated 25 October 2015, 12:43 IST

A former Navy chief Admiral L. Ramdas  has written an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Pranab Mukherjee in the wake of attacks on minorities and Dalits.

The octogenarian Magsaysay awardee writes, he was forced to hang his head in shame over the attacks on minorities and Dalits under the rule of the current government.

He regrets that such serious attacks were called by the government  'sad' and 'unfortunate'  but not condemned in unambiguous terms, reported The Telegraph.

"Today, as a veteran in my eighties, I am forced to hang my head in shame as I witness a series of incidents and assaults on our fellow citizens, especially minorities and Dalits," his letter says.

Ramdas was chief of Indian Navy  between 1990 and 1993 and  has won a Magsaysay award for peace.
