Excise minister raids two pubs on Brigade road
Minister for Excise, M P Renukacharya, accompanied by the Cubbon Park police raided two bars in Brigade Road around midnight on Saturday.
Renukacharya said that he was tipped-off about illegal activities taking place in Brigade Garden pub & restaurant and Oxygen pub & restaurant, which are located in the same building.
Six girls, four from Mumbai and two from Chandigarh, were arrested during the raids. The minister said there were at least 15 to 20 girls, but most of them managed to escape. Even Mahesh, the manager of Oxygen pub, and Kumar, the manager of Brigade Gardens, managed to escape.
However, the police managed to arrest two staff members of Brigade Gardens. During the raid, more than 200 people were present in both the places. The two places allowed obscene dancing and remained open beyond permitted hours.
The police seized liquor from the two places, however no cash was found.
The jurisdictional DCP also came to the spot and helped the minister.
Renukacharya said that the department had undertaken the raid to ensure compliance of the deadline.
