Last Updated 22 November 2015, 20:17 IST

Namma Bengaluru received 272 mm rainfall up to Sunday morning and this is the highest rainfall the City has received for the month of November in a century.

Hundred years ago, in 1916, the City had recorded the highest rainfall ever of 252.2  mm for the month of November. But this record has been now broken, said Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru officials.

“The City has so far received 272 mm rainfall. This is apart from the 3.8 mm rainfall the City received on Sunday up to 5.30 pm. There are eight more days remaining in the month,” the official said.

Last year, in the month of November, the City had received merely 25.7 mm. In  2010, Bengaluru had received 145.3 mm rainfall which was the second highest of the century after 1916, till it rained this year. High rainfalls of 143.7 mm and 125  mm were also recorded in 2013 and 2012 respectively.

“The City has been receiving very good rainfall because of the delayed onset of the North-East monsoon, the formation of many systems in the Bay of Bengal and depression in the Tamil Nadu coast. Presently the City has been receiving rainfall because of the low pressure area over east-Central Arabian Sea and surrounding areas.

“Under the influence of this system, the City will receive rainfall for the next two days. The temperatures will also dip in the forthcoming days,” the official added.

From October 1 till November 22 of this year, the City has received 319 mm rainfall, which is 103 mm more than the normal forecasted rainfall. HAL has received 378 mm rainfall, which is 164 mm more than the normal expected rainfall.
