Tegur hosts State-level bullock cart race

The 12th State-level bullock cart race, held on the outskirts of Tegur village, on Monday, amid the rain, enthralled thousands ofspectators.

The event had created a festive atmosphere in the village, as 75 carts from Belagavi, Hassan, Haveri, Mandya, Mysuru, Chitradurga and Hubballi districts took part.

Some of the bullocks raised the eyebrows of spectators, who were, especially enthralled watching the race that took place amid rain. The first, second and third prizes have gone to Chikkamagaluru district while Mandya district had to satisfy itself with the fourth place.
Mahesh from Mandre village, Tarikere taluk, won the first place, with Rs 30,000 cash prize and a trophy. Harsha of Nallur maidan near Chikkamagaluru won the second place with Rs 20,000 cash prize and a trophy.

Krishna of Mailapur village in Ajjampur, won the third place, with Rs 15,000 cash and Sinchana of Palalli village in Srirangapatna, Mandya district, won the fourth place with Rs 10,000 as cash prize.

The bullock cart race was organised by the Arasu Yuvaka Mandala and the prize distribution will be held at the Rangamandira on November 25. MLAs, MLCs and dignitaries will take part.

Hundreds of villages arrived to witness the event. Two-wheelers were seen parked on the both sides of the road. Various stalls were put up, selling eatables. The event had been postponed to Monday due to rain. The competition which started in the morning continued till 7 pm. The youth got themselves engaged in betting on the winning cart. Women and children were also seen among the audience, in large numbers.
