Exports bring 20% revenues for JCB India

For JCB India, India’s leading construction equipment manufacturer, 2015 has been a flat year, a top executive said on Tuesday.

Talking to Deccan Herald, JCB India MD and CEO Vipin Sondhi said, “We have actually bucked the downtrend since three years through sustained exports in co-ordination with the parent company. And from exporting to 10 countries in 2011, we now export to over 60 countries.”

Sondhi explains, “Our ‘One Global Quality’ is a blessing in disguise...which means the equipment we manufacture in India can be used anywhere in the world. Our ‘Made in India’ products are exported to over 60 countries.”

For JCB India, 20 per cent revenues come from exports. Middle East and Africa are the biggest export market, followed by South East Asia and Latin America. Some components are exported to the UK.

JCB India began its operations in 1979 as a joint venture. It is now a fully owned subsidiary of JC Bamford Excavators, UK, and has five plants in India. Till date, JCB India has invested over Rs 2,000 crore and employs 5,500 people.

On future plans, Sondhi said, “Our future plan is to sell more and export more. We ensure that dealer presentation continues to expand. Four years ago we had 54 dealers with 430 outlets, and now we have 60 dealers with 600 outlets. Most of our outlets are present in semi-urban and rural India.”

On market share, Sondhi said as per industry data, every one in two construction and earthmoving equipment sold in India is a JCB.

The Ballabgarh facility near New Delhi is the world’s largest Backhoe Loader plant and manufactures Backhoe Loaders, Skid Steers, Loadalls, and JCB engines. The two facilities at Pune house the Heavy Line Business, which includes manufacturing of Excavators, Loaders, Compaction Equipment, and Fabrications for the JCB Group.

No.2 design centre
With over 400 engineers, JCB India has the largest Design Centre, outside of the UK at Pune, and the latest facility at Jaipur, a zero discharge, green facility manufacturing fabrications. It has 43 products across seven product categories.

Traditionally, large markets for JCB in India are North (30 per cent) and West (12 per cent). The largest selling state for JCB in India is Rajasthan with 12 per cent market share.
In Karnataka, it has five dealers and 44 outlets. In 2014, it had sold 2,000 machines in the State, compared with 2011 (2,800 machines sold). Karnataka de-grew over the last three years. “We are expecting Karnataka to come back strongly,” Sondhi said.

Meanwhile, JCB India will showcase the new ecoXcellence range of Backhoe Loaders, the JCB 220LC Xtra Tracked Excavator — a new entrant in the 22-tonnes market — the much awaited 455 ZX wheeled loader in the five tonnes segment, and the new Master Loader at Excon 2015.

“Visitors will be able to experience JCB Livelink, an advanced telematics system which provides real-time information on service, operation, and security of machines. Customers and dealers will have a better control on their equipment usage,” Sondhi said.
