Former chief minister and deputy leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, Capt Amarinder Singh, was on Friday appointed the new president of the Punjab Congress.
The move is targeted to ebb the scaling internal strife within the party and to ensure that its prospects in the Assembly elections in early 2017 are not derailed on account of its warring senior leaders.
Other posts announced by the party high command on Friday as part of the rejig have leaders who are Capt Amarinder’s loyalists.
