Plot to kill senior citizen thwarted: police arrest 10

The Sadashivanagar police say they have averted a possible murder of an elderly woman by arresting 10 men on Saturday.


The suspects are Sridhar (45), Keshav (22), both of Banashankari, Abdul Raheem (24) of  Nandini Layout, K Srinivas (35), Santosh Kumar (22), Vinod (23), K Madhusudhan (22) from Adugodi, N S Raju (22) Nelagedaranahalli, Ranganath (22) of Gollarahatti in Shira taluk and Manjunath (30) of Hunasemaradahatti village in Madhugiri taluk.

Police said they arrested them on a tip-off, near Ramana Maharshi Park in Sadashivanagar while they were waiting to commit a dacoity, and seized lethal weapons and Rs 52,500.

Sridhar, the prime suspect had given supari to the remaining suspects to kill Saraswathamma (86) of Shankarpuram who had bequeathed a one-storey building in the same area to Sridhar’s father.

After his father passed away recently, Sridhar feared he would not be able to become the heir to the house. Hence, he hatched a conspiracy to kill the woman, and contacted the suspects and gave them Rs. four lakh to carry out the murder, police said. The suspected killers, after having received Rs 70,000 in advance, made one botched attempt to kill the woman and decided to wait for a while.
Sridhar offered them a further Rs. two lakh to kill a friend of his, Kishore Kumar with whom he had a tiff.

Three of the suspects, who met at the house of Radhika in Audugodi to discuss the murder plans stole valuables worth Rs. 15,000 from the house, police said. They suspect Ranganath and Manjunath to be involved in two robbery cases, including one in which a IISc student was the victim.

House burgled
G R Prashant of Padmanabhanagar who had gone to visit his friend, returned an hour later to find the front door of his house open and jewellery and other valuables were missing. The front door had been forced open.

Held for robbery
RT Nagar police have arrested five persons, including two women on charge of robbery.
Shivakumar (30) and his wife Shilpa (24), from Dattatreyanagar in Hoskerehalli, Kumar (29) of Srinagar, Venkatesh and and Shashikala (26) of Ganganagar are suspected to have robbed Ramakrishna Reddy, a realtor.

Recently, they took Ramakrishna Reddy on the pretext of wanting to discuss a land deal, threatened him at a knifepoint and robbed him of jewellery, wrist watch, cellpone and cash, all valued at Rs two lakh, police said.

Vehicles recovered: 2 held
The Ashoknagar police arrested two persons and recovered five autorickshaws and four bikes worth Rs 6.5 lakh.

According to police, Nayaz of Padarayanapura and Mehaboob of Vijayanagar had stolen the vehicles parked outside houses using duplicate keys in Chamarajapet, Kamakshipalya, Halasuru Gate, Cottonept, Vidyaranyapura, Byatarayanapura and Hanumanthnagar.
