The State government has given its consent to set up video conference centres in all the jails across the State at a cost of Rs 24 crore, Additional Director General of Police (Prisons), Kamal Pant has said.
He told reporters after inspecting the district prisons on Monday that the government would release Rs 17 crore for installing CCTV cameras in the jails and the work would be completed in two years. He said that following recent the murder of prisoners at Mangalore jail, instructions had been issued to beef up security measures at all jails. A 20-point report has been submitted to the State government on prison reforms, he added.
