Council elections: Cong to announce its list tomorrow

The list of Congress candidates for elections to the Legislative Council will be declared on Wednesday after consultation with the high command, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said.

“The list of Congress candidates is ready and I am going to Delhi on Tuesday to meet the high command and finalise the names. The final list will be announced after the party leaders give their consent,” the chief minister said on Monday.

He was speaking to reporters in Challakere, Chitradurga district. He was in the town to take part in the marriage of legislator D Sudhakar’s daughter.

Answering to a query, the chief minister said that a private bill had been introduced on simple marriages in order to curtail expenditure on ostentatious marriages. 

Siddaramaiah said that the Speaker will submit a report to the High Court on the removal of the Lokayukta and Upalokayukta and further action would be taken as per the orders of the Court.

Home Minister G Parameshwara, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra, Energy Minister D K Shivakumar and others were present on the occasion.
